The more we know that other women are making the impossible possible, the more empowered we will be that we can do the same. We were ecstatic to see how excited you all were to read about our top 20 Classy Career Girls of 2015 so we wanted to dive even deeper into these working women making a difference. This interview features Lauren Shaber, a 24-year-old girl, born and raised in California. Lauren Shaber is currently living in the Bay Area. She works full-time in partner marketing at Cisco and also manages a healthy living blog. When shes not working or blogging, you can find her at the farmers market, catching up on her favorite TV shows, or practicing her photography. Name: Lauren Shaber Titles: Partner Marketing, Cisco Website: http://www.laurenliveshealthy.com/ What is the best advice anyone has ever given to you? My boss recently told me that itâs okay with being a beginner. I always push myself so hard and want to be an expert that sometimes I overdo it and forget to do some of the basic steps to get there. By stepping back and admitting to myself that I donât always have to do it right from the get-go was huge wakeup call. Itâs allowed me to focus more on asking questions and build the foundational knowledge I need to succeed, ultimately allowing me to do my work better. It was definitely a wake up call. Who inspires you? Iâm really inspired by women who have turned their passions and created it into a career and who focus on supporting other women. For example, I look up to Lauren Conrad, who has created a bunch of businesses that are all geared toward bettering women, one of which connects artisans around the world with consumers. Itâs so inspiring. Sheâs also shares her experiences in an authentic way and partners with companies that are true to her and her brand. Thatâs definitely how Iâd like to be perceived business-wise. Whatâs your typical day like? I usually wake up around 5:30 or 6 and get in a long walk or workout. Then I ease into my morning by making an almond milk latte and a nice breakfast. Because I work from home, I donât have a commute to deal with and savor the time before everyone else starts waking up. Iâm on my computer around 7:30 or 8 responding to emails and starting the workday, since I work with a lot of people in Europe. I work until about 5 every day, then have dinner with my boyfriend and catch up on our favorite TV shows. I usually finish the day with some yoga. I work on my blog in the morning, at night or over lunch â" whenever I can find some spare time! How do you balance work with your everyday life? Honestly, this is the hardest thing for me that Iâm constantly working on. I manage my blog outside of a full-time job, so I often feel like I have two jobs. I make sure to focus on surrounding myself with people who support what Iâm doing. My boyfriend and I have date nights scheduled each week together and try to eat dinner together every night. I also try to do something every day that makes me happy, whether thatâs taking a hot bath, reading a few chapters in a book, or making a nice meal. When Iâm happier, I actually tend to perform better at work, so I make it a point to focus on bettering myself every day. What is your all-time favorite book? Tuesdays With Morrie by Mitch Albom What is your favorite vacation spot? Half Moon Bay, CA What is your favorite restaurant/food? Sushi What was your first job? Working in a candle store What is your favorite TV show? Greyâs Anatomy What is your favorite thing to do on the weekend? Walking to the farmers market with my boyfriend, stopping into our favorite local coffee shop on the way.
